On August, 6, 2019, we had a lecture about quantitative research with David Christian. The lecture was about the details of quantitative research and the most significant procedures included in.  So quantitative research must include confidentiality, title, create questions, and how can you measure change or progress. All these things are considered as something critical in the quantitative research to complete your paper. this type of research can also be used to inform instructional decisions measuring the effectiveness of school climate. Thus, the importance of such kind of research is that to inform us  what percent of any group responded to a particular feature or intervention as compared to groups that did not receive the particular feature or intervention. Again it is something that is in relation to the percentage and statistical analysis. The most important terms that I learned through this lecture is that the null analysis, correlation, P...
On August, 6, I had a lecture with Stephen Perry about library research and question. The lecture was about how to research about a specific topic or a book and how to browse via some particular links that will help us a s teachers to find the materials that we are looking for. Stephen handed us some specific links that he designed which would be very useful for us in our research project to find the data that we need. These links will help us find the material for free without paying. All these things were very critical for us to complete our project easily without any complications. The lecture was opened for us to browse the resources that in need for us and to practice how we can get these resources according the provided links. Stephen gave us time to search for the required books, articles and essays that we need with precise instructions and he was directing us how to browse through to avoid paying money to any required material. I liked the way in which th...
On Wednesday, July, 31, there was a lecture about educational technology by Linda Jones. The lecture was about how to use technology in teaching and how it is possible to use technology in teaching. By using technology, there are many benefits of language learning. So the benefits of using technology in language learning are to increase time on task, contact with authentic language, allow for creative activities in and out of class, enhance students and teachers motivation, address students' needs. All these benefits are very important to language learning process in which the students would be able to learn language better. Using technology in language learning has also some negative issues because using technology is not always possible and doable. Sometimes technology inside the class doe not meet the needs of the students or the goals of what the teacher wants and there is a suitable time to use technology inside the class. For me, I found the l...
On Monday, July, 29, and Wednesday, July, 31, I had lectures about teaching pronunciation      with Christina. The lectures were about the importance of pronunciation for the students and how        to pronounce the stressed words. The importance of teaching pronunciation to our students is that our students will improve their listening comprehension skill because it will be easier for them to distinguish vocabularies via their pronunciation. Another important thing, in my opinion, is that pronunciation is very significant for the students to improve their reading skill because reading is the pronunciation of words and English language consists of many words that look the same but pronounced differently and have different meanings. Word stress is also another important topic in pronunciation. It is usually useful, engaging, and fun to teach. Thus, what was included in Christina's lecture is stressed w...
On Thursday, July, 25 I had a lecture with Gavin under the title of "student -centered learning". It was about the difference between student-centered learning and teacher-centered learning. for me, I like this way of delivering the lecture since the students-centered classroom offers more opportunities for the student to negotiate inside the class which create valuable academic environment. Another thing is that when students are engaged in negotiation they use language functions more and provide effective development to proceed their level of language. So the students, by applying this approach, (students-centered class) will share the focus and interact inside the class equally. Students will be also able to communicate and collaborate with each other through group work. They will also be able to ask questions and complete independent tasks. But some teachers do not like this approach to be applied inside the class because the class may be noisy or chaot...
Last week, I attended a couple of lectures under the title of "teaching grammar" with Mr. Joe.    These lectures included a lot of topics and activities inside the class like: adjective clausses, and passive voice. These topics were taught almost inductively where Joe introduces the topic and gives examples before starting the rules of the topic. For me, I like this approach  because it is a meaningful as well as a memorable lesson and allows the students to engage and discover themselves via participating actively in the lesson without recognizing the rules. Another thing is that the students are motivated spontanuosly since the lesson is a student-centerd rather than a teache-centered class. So by following this approach, the teacher will make use of students' eliciting knowledge instead of explaining a given concept by being presented by the teacher to show how the concept is used by the stud...
Today, I would like to talk about my experience concerning (2019 ELATE summer conference). I attended the session conference of Friday and Saturday. For Friday, I attended the session of " designing for discomfort: curriculum development as advocacy work". This session was really useful for me because it's related to project that I am working on. The topic dealt with many aspects of curriculum and discomfort and how these aspects can affect students' learning processes. Thus I find the session very interesting as well as engaging for that I tried to understand all components of the session to apply them in my project. Another thing is that the session includes many researchers from different states around US and that gave me the chance to get involved in discussions about teaching English as a foreign language and the most updated methods of teaching English. The other interesting session that I attended was under the title of " Talk, Texts, and Tweets: us...
